Adding Programs to the Enlightenment Menu (DR17)

This is actually surprisingly easy, providing you can start the program from the command line. The first problem I found with this is that without installing Eterm, you don’t have a terminal to start things from, however, you are given a “run command” button. click that, and type “xterm”, from there, “yum install eterm”. Eterm should now appear magically on your programs menu.

Now, for the rest of the stuff. Lets take Vmware Client as an example. Old readers of the blog will know that it’s a favourite of mine, and I’ve posted many fixes on how to get it working under FC6 (currently missing from this blog, but basically get search for the any-to-any VMware patch, and install it.)

open eterm, and type “vmware”, then enter.

Go to the top left-hand corner (near where the icon for Vmware is), and click on it. Then chose “create icon”. This will pop up a dialog box with some information in it. This is probably okay. Now, you’ve made your icon, but where to do you find it?

Well, click on the icon of your program again, and you’ll see a new set of menu items “add to favourite programs”, and “add to launcher”. Select the “add to favourites” first. This will mean you can do the others from the usuall launcher configuration menus, if desired at a later date.

Now, click the spiky yellow circle, and look at “Favourite Applications”, there’s Vmware.

Enjoy.
