NPower Sucks

(start Rant)

Okay, so we got a bill from NPower to day, only to discover that some muppet at NPower can’t count. They were in no way cheaper than our previous supply, infact, they appear to be a little more expensive. that’s not the problem. The problem was that the amount that we were paying was in noway enough to cover our ussage. This has meant that we now owe them 700 quid. There is no arugment that we’ve spent the money our bill is average (well, less than average actually) for a house this size, the problem was that we’ve not paid it off. When I thought that the 80 quid p/m was a little low, turns out, it was. It appears that’s the way they get customers.

you pay less than your supplier until you’ve run up a big bill, and then your tied in for 12 months while you pay it off, never quite managing to clear your bill, and then being stuck paying them money. It’s not exactly a scam, but it’s definately immorral.

I figured I’d phone them and talk nicely with someone to see if there was something they could do. They were just simply not interested. They didn’t care that I was not going to be able to afford their new level of Direct Debit, nor did they want to be discuss ways of paying. For them, it was pay or die. The woman at the end was obviously simply repeating a script, and really was about as helpful as a chocolate tea-pot. I would guess working there she gets sick of phone calls like this. I didn’t shout, and I didn’t loose my temper, I just tried to get her to help me out. She didn’t seem to be interested.

The threat of changing supplier didn’t seem to faze her, she simply kept telling me that was my right. She didn’t tell me that I couldn’t change supplier without paying off my bill, so we shall see how it goes. I’ve applied to E-ON for my new supplier. They may not be the cheapest, but I decided to call them and talk to someone, and their desk was at least willing to talk to me. More than that, the guy seemed to know what he was talking about, directed me to a tarif that he felt would be cheaper, adjusted the bill upwards to a value that I thought it should be (a little less than what I thought it would be, to be honest). I was still, obviously, a little weary abuot this, but they send you a bill every quater, and you are able to manage your bill online.

So, the morral of the story seems to be AVOID NPOWER. I mean, really, don’t do it. Also, check your bill. If you’ve not seen a bill for a while, phone them and ask for one. Give them a meter reading, and ask to see how much you owe. Keep your debit in line with what you owe, and of course, follow the advice from the government, and get Energy saver-bulbs. There’s no excuse, their cheap enough. Get timer sockets to turn the TV off from midnight through 7am, all that kind of thing.

Watch your bill people.

Npower customer service is a complete crap. My meter reading for electricity was extremly high. So i phoned them and asked to send an electrician to check it. They sent someone who did not speak any English and just came to check the meter reading, not to fix anything. I phoned them up and complained. After 40 minutes on the phone i was told me that they dont cover Ealing Broadway area, which is in Zone 3 and cant send anyone. I paid a huge bill to avoid debt collectors and will be switching later this year to a different supplier.
