vocational Guidence Councellor

Is where I’m going tonight. I’m going to be taking the application form I gained from the Warden of Ordinands, and I’m going to try to get him to explain the idea of “Vocation” to me. Like I’ve said before, I know what I want, I just need to find the words that the Church is looking for.

This is for the 3 year Bachelor of Theology Degree, and the shot at the collard.

I was hitchhiking back from Oxford many years ago and I was picked up by 2 students at the Theology College. They spent the journey making up a song for their friend whose birthday party they were attending. I found his friends to be the most congenial of people and we had a great time, but I have missed out a salient piece of information as I don’t want to appear like I am trying to be inflammatory – it is just that all these recent posts are reminding me of lots of different things, which is strange as as far as I can see so far we could’t be less alike!

    Caz,

That was very cryptic. Indeed, that was INCREDIBLY cryptic. Salient piece of information? Less Alike?

Well, I can’t be anyone but who I am. I am training to be a Vicar, because, well, because I don’t really think I couldn’t NOT train to be a Vicar… perhaps you might want to elaborate.

Less alike? I suppose I mean that you are a Christian, and clearly that is central to your life, and I am an athiest, and that is central to my life, so we must be widely divergent on fundamental issues, but we also have lots of things in common!
I suppose fundamentally we are similar in that we are open to many different ways of being and are not fond of proselytising or judging, so maybe it is not so surprising that we have things in common. Anyway, your blog is THE one I find myself coming back to because it IS the dogs wotsits!

There are two points I’d like to respond too in that post. The first being that Just because we have fundamentlay different beleifs, doesn’t mean that we are fundamentally different. I would suggest that perhaps that is one of the big challenges to people today. The idea of “in-group, and out-group”. If I am in the group “Christian”, then I can’t possible see things from the point of view of someone in the group “Atheist”. To the same end, because I am in the group “Christian”, the views dictated by the religion will mean that I must, by necessity, rant at those people who the Church (that is, the governing body) claims are “heathens” or “bad” because of their lifestyle/sexuality/beliefs. From what I can gather from your scant postings on this blog, the only fundamental issue we disagree on is the existence (or not) of the big G. I have to say that re-reading this blog, I do come accross as a bit more of a God-Botherer than I actually am. I Think that’s because this is a space for me to put things, and personal stuff, so it’s generally about me, rather than about how I face the world. Again, I think I’m missing a few long posts, which I hope to have time for soon!

The other point I’d like to cover is your point that you think this is the “dogs-watsits” the only thing I can come up with is that you perhaps should read more informed opinions of the other bloggers out there =). Though your repeated custom is most welcome =-).

    Thanks,

    SK
